As we continue to use Diigo, I've been able to develop new skills specific to the website. I've learned more about collaboration this week as I've been able to go on other people's articles and make comments of my own as well as view comments other classmates have made on that same article. This is useful for my professional efforts because it allows me to gain new perspectives on information that I'm ingesting. This can be used to hear the opinions of students in the classroom as well as coworkers and team members.

PowerPoint is another useful tool we've been using in class. At the first level of Bloom's Taxonomy (remember - the ability to recall basic concepts/facts), PowerPoint can be used in lessons to provide students with facts in the slide and allow them to take notes on what they're learning. For example, definitions of concepts could be provided for students to copy down and then study later. At the level of understanding, PowerPoint can be used to provide discussion questions that the students can see and be asked that help to explain the concepts that they're learning. The level of application can be reached by prompting students with hypothetical situations through graphics/text and asking them to apply what they've learned to the situation presented. In order to prompt analysis in students, a teacher can include hyperlinks for videos with real-world examples of what they're learning within the presentation; students can compare and contrast what they watched in the video to what they learned in the slides. Evaluation can be prompted through PowerPoint by presenting a screenshot of a case study within PowerPoint and asking them to justify their position on the case using the content they learned. Finally, students can create their own work by using PowerPoint themselves to present what research they've done on specific topics and come up with their own ideas as it relates to course content.

Technology is ever-changing; because this is a simple fact of life, it is important that teachers stay up to date on the types of technology that are available to them for use in their classrooms. Professional development is a great way for teachers to learn from others that are well versed in educational technology. I've been using Microsoft Word as a student longer than I can remember. There were take home and in class assignments that required the use of word in a variety of ways. Some teachers would have us use it in the most conventional way (writing paragraphs/essays), while others would have us use it to make charts, brochures, and documents with images and word art embedded in them. As for my teachers' use of Word, I never saw them using it in an interactive manner in class, but it was obviously utilized to make handouts, tests, quizzes, and homework assignments. Even now as most classes have gone digital and don't necessarily use physical handouts, professors still use word to make assignment instructions that are posted on Canvas. Technology has long been a part of education. Although everyone has a different idea about what constitutes technology (eg. a calculator vs. a VR headset), it's presence is always intentional.  It is inevitable that students and teachers will interact with many different types of technology in many different environmental contexts. There are a variety of reasons why teachers and students use technology in the classroom, with some being a choice and others being out of necessity. Within the classroom, technology can be used either as an integral part or an enhancement of a lesson. For example, if a state standard in math is that all students must learn how to plot points and graph on a calculator, then the use of technology is essential. On the other hand, a science lesson on the structure of a cell could be enhanced using a virtual reality program that takes students inside a cell to identify different organelle. I went to the website of the school district that I attended from elementary school to high school and looked for class pages from the elementary school I went to. While our class pages used to be built into the district website, teachers now use Google Sites to provide information for students and their parents. I chose a 3rd grade class page from Plank South Elementary School to explore. All the information that is available on the page is also open to the public; the teacher includes their daily schedule, a school supply list, flashcards, booklists, math homework help resources, and spelling lists. The page includes links to other websites that parents can access in order to assist students and provide supplemental material to ensure their success.
